Custom Business Sign for NeonInk
This has been our largest project to date. It was a lot of fun to see it come together. Broc, from NeonInk requested a BIG sign with his company logo in acrylic. With the addition of xTool's P2, we were able to expand into cutting and engraving all colors of acrylic and upgrade the size limitations we have with the xTool D1. I learned a lot while making this project. Broc requested white and green letters with a black background. I really wanted to upgrade it to be LIT! The lighting was the most difficult portion of this project and the most rewarding. We started with a mini prototype using one of the nightlights we already offer. Any light shined directly through a clear layer of acrylic will light up the scored or engraved areas on that piece. Knowing this I designed the sign in 3 layers, black for the background, clear for the lights, and white/green for the letters on the front. Our initial attempt had the letters glued to the clear layer. This caused the light to highlight where we spread glue on each letter when attaching them. Very Ugly!! The second go round we cut the letters out of the clear layer. This allowed us to glue them to the black and prevented the light from showing through the letter. It still lights up all around them, but without the ugly glow of the glue. We are very happy with the results and look forward to the next commission for a large acrylic sign.
